Taylor Wessing Photographic Prize 2017
David Vintiner is once again part of the Taylor Wessing Photographic Prize shortlist (last time was in 2013 with an image from his Recall series).
The image is part of his now renowned Transhuman series and, if you want to know more about it, here is the description given by the TW panel:
British photographer Vintiner explores transhumanism, a movement that seeks to surpass biological evolution by marrying technology with the human body. Much of this work is unregulated and experts, including Nick Bostrom, the Director of the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University, have called for caution. He works to identify future catastrophes that threaten human existence, including artificial intelligence. In a bland and sterile office, devoid of any personal effects, Vintiner’s carefully layered composition creates a tension between everyday mundanity and the larger questions Bostrom grapples with at the institute.
The image, together with the rest of the entries who made it to the final shortlist, can be seen at the National Portrait Gallery until 8 February 2018.→ David Vintiner
