Hannah’s beautiful portrait of ‘John in his living room’ is one of Portrait of Britain Awards winners and is currently exhibited on UK’s nationwide network of digital Out-of-Home screens, running until end of the month throughout rail stations, shopping centres, high streets and bus stops.

John is a former scientist who helped create the contraceptive pill. Hannah was using John’s home as a location for a commercial shoot (he hasn’t changed the décor in many, many years) and he allowed her to take his portrait on a quiet moment between takes.

“In a world fraught with division, portraiture is, in many ways, the ultimate act of collaboration. Perhaps portraiture cannot solve Britain’s identity crisis, but it can help us rejoice in the diversity of our people — and remind us that, for all our differences, there is sameness amongst us, too” (Portrait of Britain Awards)
