We are thrilled with Matt McQuillan’s new personal project shot last month in Mexico.

Escaramuza is a women’s discipline within charrería, Mexico’s national rodeo sport.

Teams of eight riders gallop sidesaddle in traditional dress, riding in traditional formation. Matt’s earlier series on female sumo wrestlers followed women entering a male space and proving they belonged there. Escaramuza is different. These women created a tradition of their own, and it carries real weight and respect in Mexico.
